Katy Overby

Unit Coordinator and Extension Agent, Agriculture and Natural Resources - Horticulture

Katy Overby is a native of Dundas, VA in Lunenburg County and currently resides there with her family today. Katy grew up working on her family’s Christmas tree farm, keeping the grass mowed, helping to prune the trees, and taking care of the local Christmas tree shoppers during the holidays.  She loves the outdoors whether she is working, playing, or just relaxing.

Katy is a third generation “Hokie” and graduated from Virginia Tech in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Horticulture with a Landscape Contracting focus. In college, she was a member and officer of the Horticulture Club, a member of Pi Alpha Xi- the National Honors Society for Horticulture, and enjoyed intramural volleyball, flag football, and softball.

Since Katy graduated, she has been a landscape designer at heart. Her other occupations during and since college have included:

  • Landscape Designer, Plant Yard Manager, and Horticulturist at Twigs and Berries in Kenbridge, VA from 2011 to 2013
  • Office Manager Assistant at Rocky Hill Contracting in Kenbridge, VA from 2012 to 2013
  • Commercial Estimator, Plant Yard Manager, Webmaster, and Horticulturist at Watkins Nurseries in Midlothian, VA from 2010 to 2011

  • Florist Assistant at University Flowers and My Fair Lady in Blacksburg, VA from 2006 to 2008

Katy is excited to now be a part of the Agriculture and Natural Resources Extension Agents for Virginia Cooperative Extension and looks forward to helping the community of Prince Edward County and expanding the programming area of Horticulture in her county as well as surrounding counties.
